You can locate an address on the map at any time by clicking on the 'Find address' link from the main list of links which run across the top of any SwiftMap page. You may also arrive at this page by clicking the 'Change address' button from either the 'information' or 'find address' pages.
Using this page, (commonly called a 'gazetteer'), you can reposition the map so that it is centred on an address of your choice.
You can choose to conduct your search in a number of different ways.
A B C D E F G H I J K L MTo use the minimum of typing, if you know what letter the street name starts with, just select it from the list of options and then click on the button marked 'Address search'. The result of this search will be a list of streets which begin with the specified letter.
OR enter any part of the street name.If you know the street name, or the first part of it, you can type this in and then click on the button marked 'Address search'. This will result in a smaller list of streets to choose from than if you had only specified the starting letter.
OR enter the full post code.If you know the postcode you can simply enter that and then click on the button marked 'Address search'. When you have done this a list of house names and/or numbers which fall within that postcode will be returned to you. For a given postcode, this will a relative small list from which you can choose the right one. Note that you must enter the full post code.
Or select the last used address. If you have previously re-centred the map by using this page, then the address you last used will be presented to you as an option here. (An example is shown above.) If you simply want to re-centre the map on this address, then select the option and then click on the button marked 'Address search' - the map will be re-centred at that address.
The 'Address search' button is clicked when you have made your initial choice of search parameter regardless of what method you choose to find the address.
If you choose to search for an address by specifying the street name (or part of it) or the first letter of a street, a list of streets which match your search criterion will be returned to you. This may only be one street (e.g. if you specified the full name) or it may be a long list (e.g. if you specified just the first letter). In any case, what you do next is the same; you must select the actual street required and click on the button marked 'Address search'. If there is only one street in the list, it will already be selected for you.
Once you have selected a street and clicked the 'Address search' button, a list of house names and/or numbers representing all the properties in that street will be returned to you.
A list of house names and/or numbers will be returned to you when you select a street name or specify a postcode during your initial search. You can now simply select the name or number that corresponds to the address you are looking for and click on the button marked 'Address search'. If there is only one property in the list, it will already be selected for you.
The result of doing this will be a list of properties in the selected street or postcode which match the name or number you selected. If there is only one property, then this will already be selected. If there is more than one, you must select the one you want from the list. In either case, to re-centre the map on the property, you must click the button marked 'Locate address' (shown above).
After clicking on the 'Locate address' button you will either be taken straight back to the map page or, if your starting point was the 'Change address' button from either the 'information' or 'find address' pages, then you will be taken back there.
This page has a number of controls and links which are common to most SwiftMap pages. Follow this link to find out more about them.
